So, as most of you know already, my real estate job doesn't give me a whole lot of work because the market is so slow right now. At least, that's what I tell myself the reason is. I actually really like the work that I do there, I just find it hard to do lately. Anyway, I'm still working there but it's not keeping me really busy.
A lady in our ward, Sister Nash, is a good friend of ours. We occasionally spend Sunday evenings at her house eating and talking with other friends who come too. She's a fantastic cook (she's from Taiwan) and she's extremely sweet - you can't help but like her. She also runs a home daycare during the week for about 5 kids.
Two weeks ago she talked to me about maybe starting to come a few times a week to teach a music class to the kids. I went last week for the first time and we had a lot of fun!! I just spend an hour three times a week teaching music (singing songs, playing with instruments, dancing, etc...) There aren't that many kids and they're 3 yrs old and younger so it's kind of hard coming up with things that they can do related to music, but I'm actually enjoying it. I will probably start incorporating art projects and maybe some play drama with the 2 and 3 yr olds.
Today we did a lot of moving songs like the Hokey Pokey and the Limbo. Yesterday we listened to a bunch of different music and talked about what emotion we felt with each song, and on Tuesday we watched videos of about 10 different instruments and pretended to play them. Then I let them play on my flute, guitar and keyboard.
I think I'm going to start introducing them to music from around the world and we can learn about how music from different countries sounds a little different.
So, if anybody out there has a good idea that I can use, I would really appreciate it.
